GPT3 has never *heard* a word of English. It doesn't get to read letters/orthography due to the BPE, which makes things even harder. Yet it generates witty lines that seem to play with sound: "we might as well be graciously unconscious" (the repeated "s" sounds)
Btw, I've got to grant @JSEllenberg the point that while this is kind of like early Eliot, it's even more like later Ashbery. Interesting because there isn't a ton of early Eliot to train on but there is a whole lot of later Ashbery
The whole first stanza and the phrase "graciously unconscious" is aurally more Ashbery than Eliot to my ear. Curious for @JSEllenberg's explanation. There's more Ashbery in existence but probably more copies of Eliot on the web.
This was the first one with the title "Prufrock Sleeps". I tried a range of titles and about half of them produce cool results. I'll post more tomorrow.
