Pardon my ignorance - what am I looking at here?

Maybe the T(?

Yup. Dropcaps are the more pronounced first letter of a chapter or section. So, here it's the 'T'. Usually in some books, they're heavily decorative.

The letter 'T' which is more pronounced than the rest of the paragraph. Dropcaps are the more pronounced first letter of a chapter or section. Usually in some books, they're heavily decorative, even though here it's just a letter a few fontsizes bigger.

The big vertical spaces on drop caps on the Paperwhite does sort of bother me. I don't know why they do it like that. I expect they may continue working on the converter.

It’s because they convert to AZw3 on the paperwhite. On the scribe all “send to kindle” content is made KFX. KFX is a better format. If the paperwhite also forced a KFX conversion it would look just as good. I kinda hope they push an update to do so.

These are the same files, uploaded and downloaded the same day.

So I guess it happens when I download from my cloud library? I send my "Send to Kindle" documents to the cloud, not directly to any particular device.

Yes! And it must be recent. Anything I had transferred before November of last year did not go KFX, but when I sent again it did.

Note some features like X-ray won’t work in most cases

Interesting. I didn't know Amazon converts Send to Kindle content to KFX on Scribe. I use Calibre to directly send KFX to my Paperwhite to take advantage of those niceties (typography, wordwise, x-ray).

Ya. I noticed my books looked different between the two devices, popped it into the computer and was surprised to see everything was KFX.

Apparently it has to be to use the features of the device.

How is the glare on the scribe? I'm seriously considering picking one up next time they go on sale

Just as good as any other kindle, maybe a touch better. I love this thing. The fact that it converts my books directly to KFX is a nice touch as well, as it is the better format.

If my Paperwhite would automatically convert my send-to-Kindle files to KFX I would never ask Amazon for anything else ever again.

Yeah it wouldn’t bother me. Paperwhite is still superior to me

Different use cases for me. I’ve gotten old, so for at home reading I love the ability to use way larger text and take notes. The case makes this useable. Without the case, I’ll admit, it be a heavy pain in the ass to use. I would never hold this up as I read.

I still love my paperwhite. That’s my poolside, bath time reader. It also be my travel reader. I like having multiple kindles though. I have a fire for graphic novels as well.

If I only was able to have one, I’d stick to the paperwhite for reading. As is, I love this device.

Ive been playing too much fallout. I was like oh you bought a new kindle, yay!

[–]jedigeoffrey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I did! Just noticing one of the biggest differences between the two.
